Milsom Place Bath has invited two fresh graduates of the Ceramics Masters Programme at Bath Spa University, Mirka Golden-Hann and Sarah Purvey to exhibit their work. The exhibition highlights the artists strengths found within the Masters course. On show are two contrasting approaches to contesting the role and aesthetics of a ceramic vessel, whilst pushing technical boundaries of form, surface and display. Mirka Golden-Hann’s ceramic installation comprising numerous thrown colourful bowls and her wall pieces are intended to challenge preconceived images of salt glaze, in which she specialises, and contribute to the discourse on the role of colour in ceramics. Sarah Purvey’s large hand built vessels offer an energetic blend of both scale and surface presenting a melting point between a controlled form and a painterly expressive surface.
