Iconologythe mysticism of image making 5 December 2009 – 3 January 2010PRESS RELEASE: For immediate release 19/11/09Caxton Contemporary is delighted to announce the opening of their new show ‘Iconology the Mysticism of Image Making’ a mixed show by selected artists. A group of contemporary artists were invited to make work in response to traditional icons. Referencing the use of symbolism, materials and representation. As the project developed it became apparent that in the modernist context the work was more about ‘Iconology’ , looking for and interpreting symbolic meanings that the artist may, or may not be fully conscious of, the un known mystic quality in an artists practice . The work in the show covers a diverse range of imagery and materials, and includes intimate drawings by Paul Wadsworth, ornate plaster and gold leaf reliefs by Edward Durdey and haunting images of the modern shopping Mall by artist Caroline Yates. The exhibition opens with a private view on the Saturday 5th December from 6-8 pm and continues to the 3rd of January 2010. For more information and images please contact: [email protected]
