I’ve started this blog part way through the experience of producing a group show. But it means i can recap – which is always good…. a nice simple run down.
We decided we wanted to create a book, as there was three of us showing we thought we could enjoy the amount of space we would each have in a publication. Totaling in about 50 pages, the book has been an enjoyable and exciting process. We ordered the proof and have put in an order for the opening night -hoping to sell them. We aren’t putting a profit on the price of the publication, just want to start sharing our work and getting it to exist – out there – in the real world amongst other people.
The invites have also just arrived, we only ordered a small amount, about 100. Just because we wanted to invite specific people / groups / galleries.
It has been hard, meeting together, arranging times that fit all of our busy schedules. Ryan is currently in his third year of university, Sean is artist in residence at swansea university and i am working practically full time as a hotel receptionist. Finding it hard to have two full time occupations – Erin the receptionist -and- Erin the artist…. of course one i enjoy much more than the other – but unfortunately the job takes priority as it pays the bills (and seems to waste all of my energy). I think this experience has required a lot of self direction and determination – even compared to my years in university.
I think the real challenge is having a living and studio space as one.
However this shouldn’t be a problem in the near future. Elysium is moving location and adopting a space large enough to accommodation studio spaces… hopefully – if this exhibition goes well – i will have a good chance of hiring one of the spaces.
