An Exhibition By Lucy Ward Pattern Drawings Lucy Ward presents a series of drawings illustrating two dimensional surface construction and organisation. These drawings are a catalogue of all possible surface pattern constructions and demonstrate the structures upon which all decorative patterns are based. These drawings form an invaluable resource and reference for all her current drawing practice. Lucy’s work explores the territory shared by mathematical systems of pattern construction, the philosophical work of Lefebvre’s Rhythmanalysis and Deleuze’s Difference and Repetition by rendering her own everyday activity as surface pattern. The intricate drawings map the occurrence of anticipated and repeated events in regularly ordered 2d space intimating a friction between ideal pattern and repetitive behavior in our everyday experience. Lucy is an associate lecturer at the School of Creative Arts, UWE, Bristol and assistant administrator at Bath Artists’ Studios. She has an MA in Drawing from Camberwell College of Art, London, and a BSc(Hons) in Maths and Physics from Bristol University.
