‘Liminal’ is a contemporary art exhibition by Iranian-born artist Katayoun Pasban Dowlatshahi who uses the 19th century pigment transfer technique onto glass and paper to create experimental light drawings. Her work explores the intrinsic nature of light and shadow as a metaphor of the landscape and architecture of her homeland in Iran. Other works in the exhibition are produced from double exposures onto 6 x 6 roll film and have a more formal relationship with the landscape. Katayoun said that they are by the nature of their production artificial landscapes, self reflexive and evocative and represent an experiential and personal journey. The exhibition, which includes a selection of photographic art, drawing, architectural glass and ‘time based media,’ will go on display at The University’s SPACE gallery from 15th February.
