Site specific new work by Marius Grainger. This body of work is a continuation of themes Marius has explored over the past two years- attempts to come to terms with death, and the impermanence of life. Aesthetically the work is informed by places for contemplation, prayer and confession, and how the concept of the ‘shrine’ has developed in different countries around the world. Marius is interested in the ritualistic aspect of needlework, bringing scraps of fabric to life by stuffing them and giving them physical shape. Clay pieces are combined to bring about a sense of permanence- one which outlives human flesh and bone. The two mediums feel relevant together in the context of work which deals with mortality.
