Louise West is a London based textile designer and artist who works in a variety of media exploring pattern, colour and stitch in response to traditional crafts and artefacts. This series of paintings explores a childhood love of birds, working from a selection of references from Thornton’s illustrations of birds, the children’s Lady Bird series, bird spotting books and a collection of wonky bird ornaments. Nature competes with second hand knick-knacks, embroidery and granny’s fabrics creating a sense of irreverence and play amongst the birds. Waless based artist Kathryn Campbell Dodd will be showing her unique jewellery pieces. Using vintage and reclaimed materials, they are made as mini artworks; when they are not being worn they can transform into tiny art pieces. There will also be work from her 2009 ‘Inhabit’ series of altered domestic objects. Described as ‘cosy and edgy’, the work has a quirky poetic edge.
