An exhibition celebrating the abundance, loveliness and complexity of wildlife, and then warning of the possible loss of biodiversity in the world. Shapes, colours, lines, outlines and effects of exotic species have been copied exactly, and then merged, giving a new order and structure to these semi-abstract paintings. The last semi-abstract works show endangered creatures and their habitats as if the animals have become extinct, that is, with gaps in the canvasses to represent the missing creatures. Sweeping lines represent habitats and also forces of both nature and mankind. In this 2010 International Year of Biodiversity, these works act as a reminder that our everyday actions can either help the planet or contribute to its decline. The acrylic works are by Julia Wilkinson, and are partly inspired by Landscape Architecture plans. www.juliawilkinson.net
