Two works: a collaboration.
One. By Charlotte Warne Thomas. This is noticeable from quite a distance. A white frame at a 45 degree angle to the original Dirty Square Gallery perimeter: perfect. Last month a refurbishment and this time a renovation. The Dirty Square Gallery is evolving.
Two. By Trevor Kiernander. A smashed up painting, rearranged in the original DSG frame. For those at the Private View there is a limited edition print of the original painting (pre-destruction); a face: a facehole a secco? It is reminiscent of a tree trunk. I have print 111 of 200. I am part of an elite 200 people that know the secret of the puzzle inside the frame. A secret society; like all those that attend the Private View and are in on the secret of the DSG. After all, although the gallery is not sign-posted, it still exists, for those who can locate it.
Then also; since the previous exhibition, the ‘Clean Square Gallery’ frame has been painted black and the ‘Blue Plaque’ work has been cleaned, both by someone external to the gallery. I wonder if the taxpayer is paying for DSG maintenance.
The matt blackness of the original frame compliments the new white glossy frame; makes it stand out, drawing your attention to the image inside the black frame. Perfect.
