Chadwell Way Sculpture Way. A five mile public sculpture trail in East Herts featuring 31 small scale bronzes made by 7 and 8 year old school children. Starting at the historic village of Great Amwell the trail follows the New River to Ware, the open wetlands of King’s Meads, and ends in the ancient gardens of Hertford Castle. The site specific works make direct reference to the local history and natural habitat, and similar materials and techniques used by Henry Moore, who lived and worked in nearby Perry Green have been used to create the sculptures. Modelled in wax by children from St John the Baptist Primary School in Great Amwell, the bronze cast pieces are installed at heritage sites, by rivers and in trees. The concept, design, creative workshops, project management, public consultation and fundraising for Chadwell Sculpture Trail have been carried out by Maxine King. Leaflets with a map of the trail are available at Tourist Information, libraries and public buildings in Ware and Hertford. A documentary exhibition The Making of the Trail runs at Ware Museum until 7 October 2010.
