Key objectives include raising the political profile for visual arts; supporting the Olympic legacy studio campaign and supporting development of contemporary collecting for the public benefit.

Organisations taking part in meetings so far have included a-n, Axis, Contemporary Art Society, Crafts Council, Engage, National Federation of Artists Studios and VAGA (Visual Arts and Galleries Association).

VAUK has already created a Memorandum of Understanding amongst participating organisations, to map the group’s intentions and remit and establish its advocacy and consultation role within national visual arts strategy development and in particular within implementation of Arts Council England’s Turning point ten-year visual arts plan.

As part of widening the alliance’s scope and perspective, AIR was invited to become a member at the June meeting, with AIR Artists Advisory Group David Cotterrell attending. Further meetings will take place in September and December.
