Today I came accross N.Dash in Modern Paintesr Dec 2010 – Jan 2010. ‘I don’t knit I destroy’ she says.
She manipulates paper or fabric in her pocket until it is destroyed and then displays photographs of the work.
I also looked at Manuel Vason again today who collaborates with performance artists

I’m too tired to discuss but I wanted to note it.
Interestingly N.Dash doesn’t have anny images of her work online at all.
Woke up at 3
PM!!!
Anyway despite that I decided as I’d done 36 hours work I’d not punish myself and I’d just push on with what remained of the day.
Yesterday’s mid phase review was certainly revealing. I’m looking at such a huge subject and my range of interests are so wide there was concern that I was not focused enough on one thing and my line of enquiry would not go deep enough.
To me everything I do is about making paper. Gathering, analysing, synthesising, processing and presenting and I execute these stages in the most creative way I can. But it throws up a lot of questions – a lot. Maybe to others it looks like I’m stabbing in the dark but these decisions are deliberate and relate back to what I have learned through my personal experience of the world and everything comes back to paper.
Paper is a medium, a document a catalyst, a message, a creative act, it transforms for the better or worse, it travels, it is solid in a semi transparent world, it holds value, it proves, it also us to share information and ideas, it sorts us into groups of accepted and rejected, it covers up temporarily, it can be destroyed easily, it is domestic, it is bureaucracy, it is white, it is empty, it is made in bulk by machines, it is hand made and when I use it to make art it can say all of these things depending how you read it.
Up at six and editing the video from Thursday. I decided to take a oulipo approach to editing, aaand I just had my first call!!
Going to have to start a new blog :)
The BIG Collab Bournemouth
Last few days have been tough, but today I tidied up and then did 10 drawings.
Got to present work on Tuesday. I’m just finding it difficult to make work for uni, making work to be marked, making work for academics, verging on illustrating my research.
Stop everything and just DO! Just do and forget about worrying and wondering – thank you Sol Le Witt for writing to Eva Hesse because you wrote to me to.
Things to do
– edit video, find out if they’ve got final cut pro at uni
– keep drawing
– stop over analysing
