I attach four artworks I produced with the vast image library I gathered in 2016 on my tour of Britain with the help of an a-n Travel bursary.

‘Grand Tour II: Homage to Soane (after Gandy)’ 2017 was shown as part of my solo exhibition ‘Visions of Architectural Fancy’ at the Sir John Soane’s Museum in London from 16 May – 27 August 2018. (https://www.soane.org/whats-on/exhibitions/emily-allchurch-visions-architectural-fancy)

‘Babel Britain (after Verhaecht)’ 2017, updates Tobias Verhaecht’s c17th painting of the ‘Tower of Babel’ from Norwich Castle
Museum & Art Gallery, to depict an increasingly divided country, on the cusp of Brexit, & at a pivotal moment in British history.

In February 2018 ‘Babel Britain (after Verhaecht)’ 2017 was chosen as one of six Finalists for the Columbia Threadneedle Prize,
going on to also win the Visitors’ Choice Award.

‘Capital Folly (after Piranesi)’ 2017 combines the monumental architecture of the imperial ports of London and Liverpool to consider political and economic uncertainty, and growing inequality of wealth.

‘Ghost Towers (after Piranesi)’ 2018 is a conversation about housing in our cities: with new-build luxury apartments lying empty (so called ‘ghost towers’), whilst home ownership is increasingly unaffordable and homelessness is on the rise.
