I can’t remember what was going on when I last posted so I’m just going to start talking from a few days ago!

Been really hectic at Leamington Spa Art Gallery and Museum doing the de-stall of LabCraft with the Craft Council and starting on the install of Duggins: A Warwickshire Impressionist but there has been so much happening there I can’t even begin to fit it all in to this blog post!

Second Star to the Right @ TROVE has also opened (on Wednesday) and it looks really good. Marking the Internet and the Physical 2.0 was installed very nicely in my absence – I wouldn’t have made the brick plinths for the folders but I do feel they work well and really tie the work into the physicality of the Old Science Museum location! Other personal highlights in the show include an amazing performance from Richard Peel, some very time intensive drawing from Ben Davenport, and some nice print based stuff from Dan Sailsbury and Matt Webb

Tomorrow I start installing We’ve been Re-Distributed @ ARTicle Gallery so today see’s hectic packing of work, burning of disc’s. booking of transport, etc….

on that note i should get on with everything.

As www.ryan-hughes.co.uk is currently disabled as a piece of work titled Private Property I thought I’d finally do something with the www.ryanhughesprojects.net domain I brought a while ago and did nothing with…

SO… www.ryanhughesprojects.net is live! it has a current CV, some images and video of work (I’ll be adding more this evening), my dissertation is on there (i will also be adding the essay I’m currently writing once its finished) and there is a link page which goes off to organisations I have somesort of connection to! This evening I’ll also be adding what will be a newly written artist statement…

Flyers for Second Star to the Right at TROVE are in Leamington Spa Art Gallery and Museum as well as Gallery 150. The CD-R’s of Untitled #1 (from an ongoing collaboration) are also in Gallery 150 and are free to collect until they run out!

I’m really looking forward to making some new work in the new year! The first thing I’ll be spending any real amount of time will be on the install of firewall. I’ll be submitting it to CoExist‘s ON SITE 2012 as well as the submission that is pending with B-Side Multi Media Festival.

I’m also determined to find a studio so that I can make work / play around regually! There are a few options in regard to this… still being in the process of moving I’m hoping to find somewhere to live with either a spare room or garage. Other options include viewing an open plan space in a complex in leamington spa and continuing to hunt around birmingham! I’m going to take my time in residence @ The Lombard Method as a chance to reflect on what I actually require from a space! Although determined to find one I’m not sure I actually NEED one!

Today I did the risk assessment and walk throught the install of We’ve been Re-Distributed at ARTicle Gallery… I also checked kit and have 3 working and matching VCR Players and 3 working and matching projectors!!! I discussed the shows general aesthetic and press, etc with curator Mona Casey and am really looking forward to everything begining to come togeather! I’ll post photos of install and then documentation once I have some!

I then met the curator of TROVE Charlie and Soph to drop off Marking the Internet and the Physical 2.0… and feel confidant that its going to look great installed in TROVE‘s home The Old Science Museum! I talked them through every poss situation that might arrise during install and i think everyone feels confidant! Flyers are now spread around Birmingham, are attached to this blog post and I’m dropping a pile off at Leamington Spa Art Gallery and Museum tomorrow!

Been working on a text to go with the 14second piece of sound I made with Flowlosopha which reads:

‘The work explores the notion of minimalism; in both sonic and aesthetic forms, reflecting the interests and working practices of it producers, a visual artist and musician respectively. This work is 14 seconds in duration and is made to be played using a commercial CD player’s repeat function so that it becomes looped for a period of time and creates a piece of music / sound art through this process.

This instruction highlights the participation inherent within the various forms of minimalism from the use of audience/unintentional noise in John Cage’s legendary 4’33’ as well as the action of the dance floors of Minimal Techno clubs to the Phenomenology used to understand the minimal visual art of the 1960’s.’

I will be dropping a pile of CD’s along with this text into Gallery 150 where I’m hoping they’ll be free to collect for the next month or so!

Also i’ve uploaded and attached the footage of firewall which I’ve mentioned in the last few posts!

I’ve been fairly busy editing video for Firewall today! However it’s still not ready… but a section should be attached to my next post!

I’ve been trying to find VHS players so I can transfer the footage I have for We’ve been Re-Distributed for my show at ARTicle Gallery but have been struggeling with this as well! It looks like I’m going to have to buy a new one – which I didn’t really want to do as I don’t have space for more bits of kit knocking around at the moment! There will also be a facebook event page appearing for this show soon and i’ll post a link to it when there is one!

Other than that I’ve been doing loads of last minute checks for the group show I’m in at TROVE later this month… More info on this show can be found by following the QR Code to the right! I’m showing Marking the Internet and the Physical 2.0 and it looks as though I’m going to have to re-print the map as the orignal is fairly water damaged after Marking the Internet and the Physical 1.0 at The Birmingham Social Centre… But this isn’t a problem, in fact it makes the work more accurate!
