I visited LabCraft: Digital Adventures in Contemporary Craft at Leamington Spa Museum and Art Gallery yesterday and was really impressed. The Temporary exhibition space has, over the last year, had some shows which have been really intresting in relation to my practice… This show continued that trend (and I plan on writing a review for Interface soon). Any readers of my Degrees Unedited blog over the past year or so will be aware that I’ve been wanting higher levels of production in my sculptural pieces, high levels of production are excatly what this show had in abdunance. All the work was Laser Cut, CNC’d, Water Jet Cut or used various other digital techniques and everything looked so good. I’ve decided to find a Lab I could work with (emails to BIAD as a starting point). This might take a while but I’m dertermind to have a go!

Still not been able to work on the 200x SimCard but that might be a good thing as I’m going to be rethinking how its going to be produced after seeing LabCraft. I’ve strated work on the text to go alongside We’ve Been Re-distrubuted but haven’t done anything on the videos for it. I’ve also started looking around for a printers to work with for this project and will post more about all this in the coming week.

I also recieved the Bob and Roberta Smith book I mentioned in a previous post and will be trying to organise a meeting with Bernard from the Cardell Collection this week…

I have also Started thinking about some new works but this is only at very early stages… One is concerned with FireWalls which I will be proposing as a project for B-Side Multi-Media Festival 2012 and the other is a physical manifestation of Twitter and architecturally based on the Aviary’s which we’re popular in the early 1900’s. Still alot of things to do for these projects though.

You can already directly stream video using your laptop or mobile phone, and it is only a matter of time before the constant broadcasting of one’s life becomes as common as email.

Manovich, L; Art After Web 2.0 taken from The Art of Participation: 1950’s to Now; pp.74; Thames & Hudson; New York; 2009

Found the above quoat in a really intresting essay… I’ve also decided on a title for the project I discussed at the start of my last post (the one using video, email and print). It’s going to be called: We’ve Been Re-Distributed. Other than that nothing new to report…

This week I’ve been working on an email, video and print based work exploring how web 2.0 has changed the distrubution and consumption methods available to us as a society… This started from extensive watching of You’ve Been Framed and Rude Tube and daily use of youtube and email. Over the next few days I’m going to be writing a text for this work and finishing off videos (which may take a bit longer than a few days) and after that I’ll be looking for a gallery or festival which will give me a chunk of space and access to its mailing list!!! Once these things have happened I’ll post more about it inc. a chuck of text, probs a few relivant quoats and poss some images and video!!!

I’m also waiting on delivary of the catalogue of the cardell collection (mentioned in last post) so I can start picking artefacts and objects I might like to see/investigate. I have also ordered a copy of a Bob and Roberta Smith book to remind myself and to show to the cardell collection how he interacted with the Garman Ryan collection at the New Art Gallery Walsall… Still really excited to see where this goes!!!

I havn’t done anything on the 200x enlarged simcard… still not having a studio is making making physical things really quite difficult…

I’ve also stared selecting music and burning it to CD-R for the DJ Set I mentioned in the last post, so far I have Phantom Orchard’s ‘Deft’, AGF’s ‘MyPatch’, Autechre’s ‘Eggshell’, Cory Arcangel’s ‘SourceMaster’ and a few others…More TBC…

I graduated with a first class BA(Hons) Fine Art from BIAD. Then I was an artist. Los of things happened, insted of rambling about them all I’ll start at the begining of this week and go from there.

Monday I went over to Birmingham to collect a load of material I had left there over the summer… I now have an extensive collection of chipboard and hardboard waiting to be needed.

I had a meeting with The Leamington Spa Museum and Art Gallery about doing casual gallery assiatant work with them and am waiting to hear about the outcome of that chat. Whilst talking about TLSMAAG; they have a show called LabCraft opening next week that looks excellent… I might write a review on that once I’ve seen it which will appear over on interface!

Wednessday I tried cutting a 200x enlarged replica of a simcard out of chipboard and hated how rought it came out… I also recieved some marble samples in the post and am thinking about making / having made a carved marble and cast bronze monument to the simcard.

Today I had a meeting with the head of the Cardell Collection in Southam, Warwickshire, a collection of local history artefacts and documents and it looks likely that I will be doing a series of projects in response to these items or will be conducting a residency of sorts with them… but will post more info on this when it becomes relevant!

I’ve also been offered the chance to DJ at an event in Leamington Spa and I think I’m going to play a lot of architecture refrencing structural pieces from labels like entr’acte, warp, ghostbox as well as some sound pieces I’ve been working on myself…

On a side note – it feels good to be blogging again!
