I am now starting to make my drawings for the film that I am going to undertake for part of my Degree Project. I have already made several frames which will develop in to the images which tell the narrative of the film.
I am using charcoal as my main source of material as I feel it helps create good texture and use of shadow. It also helps to express atmosphere in my work, which will expand on the emotion of the story at that point in time. An example of this would be when the couple part ways.
I will be testing out the work with the Copy Can and taking photographs to see how the film is coming together over the next few weeks.
This image shows a road in the town with lots of shops on. I took photographs of each frame so that I could tell a short narrative with the image.
This drawing was done with pastel and it helped me explore with colour further. Also helped made me see how colour helps to make the drawing look more bolder, as everything comes to life more. So I think in the final film it would be good idea to use charcoal in the main, but for important objects to use pastel to make the image stand out.
I completed this short by taking the photographs on the Copy Can, which has been a very useful piece of equipment, making sure that every image is in the same position so they won’t jump around when the final film is being produced.
This has helped me to think about how a street in the small town may look, ready for starting to draw the final images for the film this month.
I found doing this picture quite useful as after it’s completion I was able to think about and plan how the town will look in my head. Now I need to start placing these ideas I have on paper. So I can work on making the narrative come to life for the film.
I also found it helpful to see were the shop logo’s would appear and so could see how much space would be left for the window and door frames. From doing this I could see that a larger space for the front of the shops entrances would be more suitable. As it would be more clear to see as there would be more space around the doors and windows.
The main problem was that I did not know what to do with the lower part of the image. So I just added landscape when I should of been thinking about more ideas for the town’s layout. For example were the road could of gone or which other buildings to show. I need to draw a plan of the town with roads and buildings on, so that I can work from this map.
The themes I will be covering will be topics of interest to me or parts of experiences that have affected my own life.
The characters will be brave and strong as they will have to come together to fright the evil then it arrives.
The couple in love will have to act and one of them will have to face a hard test, for the safety of the other.
Many of the town’s people will be brave, but some will run and show cowardice and hide away.
Will be adding more about the themes of the work later, as I need now to map out what I want to cover and what ideas I will be placing in the film.
