I am looking at Picasso’s production design for the play of Parade which he did in Russia were he collaborated with the The Ballets Russes. Jean Cocteau recruited Picasso to produce the curtains and this working pathership lasted for many years to come.
Parade started in Paris in May 1917 and it was a good production. Pablo Picasso Org observes that “Picasso’s entree into this milieu came with his curtain design for the production of Parade.” (2009, p. 3)
This fits in to my own work as I am making a short film. This is want I am doing, thinking how to make the viewer interested. Pablo Picasso Org suggets that “Picasso’s design reflected his move back towards the more romantic representation of street performers”. (2009, p. 3) Picasso’s design is quite uplifting in it’s state of mind. Good for family audience and is relaxing to watch, makes you feel good. It’s almost not in reality. The theme of the work is the circuit, as the actors are playing clowns.
My own work covers similar themes such as magic. Makes the viewer feel good when the hero’s are frighting back to protect their town. You can just sit and relax and enjoy it.
My work also mixes reality with magic, as it is set in a present day town. Also there is magic, which is not reality. As evil witches come to town to take control. The town people then have to save their homes.
