This project has enabled me to use drawing to explore the process of development: the growth of interrelations and connections between shapes, objects and people within their environment.
Pinned all my work up at college and was able to see how much I’ve actually done over the past 3 months. Lots to think about now to work out how to push it forwards over the next month. Spoke to tutor about work and his thoughts included:
Architectural, theatrical, organised chaos, kack-handed perspective (in a good way!), wanting to find the narrative, story-telling. I’m going to keep giving myself time to explore through drawing.
More recently I have been trying to develop this project (and my work generally) by drawing every day – I am really surprised how much development has occurred from this quite naturally..
I wanted to stay with the box motif so I started just drawing boxes in as many different ways as possible – this is more exciting than it sounds!!
So now I've almost got so much stuff I don't know what to do with it all. My aim now is to get it down to 3 Ideas on which to then focus more clearly on….
Even though I've not written for a month, I have been busy busy busy working and thinking about this project which really only has a month left. I was very efficient and completed a project overview before we are exhibiting and I see that I have 8 weeks to the final show….
This is how I completed my last 'show':
"This corridor of boxes leads into the only space left where everyday life can continue. The boxes surround us and we have to face the reality that we are in transition continually. Trapped. That moving on has to be about facing the fact that we are moving all the time, but what do we choose to take with us? Everything? Nothing? What happens to all our memories? Many people have said to me over the past couple of months that their belongings are their identity. Each box has an identity. It has markings of its travels and whom it has belonged to, and what belongings have been inside and where it is now to be placed."
