Recently i haven’t had chance to make work as i was predicting in my last post, however, i’ve been reading alot and am making some good headway into my reading list… i have finished instillation art: a critical history and have started on the art of participation: 1950 to now.
I’ve also been writing and have uploaded a shortened version of my review of the out yer tree walk and talk event onto the interface reviews section on this website. It wasn’t particually thought through i just wanted to see how much i could write in an afternoon in preperation for my disertation… i got to 1654 words… which i dont think is too bad.
To be able to do this i have obvisouly attened said exhibition and have been hunting for research in other places as well and had some sucess in finding an actual block in the style of those i have been making…not the same pattern but still good to have.
i’ve also been drawing and making alot of notes and am looking forward to making some work again…
I’ve been really working on my first wall section since my last post and thats about all i’ve been upto… still been doing alot of drawing trying to work cerrtain things out and have been making decisions as to how the walls are going to stand. I’ve literally just finished cutting my first board and am increadibly pleased with it… i want to get going with painting it up but am going to have to wait until i can afford a new roller which is probs a good thing as it means i won’t just rush my way through the work as i tend to do…
So. More drawing and reading for a few days… I’m currently reading Claire Bishop’s Installation Art: A Critical History for a bit of opposition to all the Bouriaurd I’ve been reading lately…
I’ve been mostly making recently which has been really fun… still not particularly reached conclusions but I’ve got 5 weeks to make decisions before I get back into the studio properly. But I’ve been developing my fence/wall in more 3D methods as well as drawing a lot…and trying to make decisions on colouring.
Also re-read relational aesthetics and postproduction.
Anyway quite pleased with the developments this week and am looking forward to seeing them realised.
Whilst working on my digital 3D models and computer game for object for moving over #2 i mentioned last time, I have started developing another method of creating spaces or sites that will work in a similar way to my sign works.
It basically consists of a series of walls, I’m not sure how these are going to be created yet but have been really experimenting with sculpture, printing and painting and still have quite a few things to try out but am currently quite pleased with how its going… really want to get back into a proper studio space with access to a full workshop though!!
I’m also trying to develop something to happen within these created spaces, I’m thinking about performances, collection of objects, distribution of objects – but still not really sure on that either…
Also I’ve been trying to find ways to create good quality material on the cheap and whilst walking around the lickey hills earlier today i started considering collecting tree sections to shape down in to timber??? MAYBE???
I have also applied for an internship at international project space which would take up 2 days a week for 3 months but i think i could learn a great deal from, I’m really looking forward to hearing back about that!! I’m also still waiting to hear back from the LSA about helping with the re-formatting of the exhibition application forms…
Quite a bit going on still, had a weeks work doing the gallery rebuild for the MA showat BIAD, Birmingham City University and the 125 years showas well which has been intresting and more importantly its been really good to get back into the marg st. building…it seems like ages since i’ve been in my studio there!!!
I also unfortunatly had my work for the out yer treeexhibition at coombe abbey rejected due to health and saftey regulations which was quite upsetting but actually made me realise that the work could be furter developed anyway so i’m going to continue on with those… I’m currently looking for sly spaces i can just put them up in so i can test the strength of them myself and investigate the way they hang… I’m also hopeing that trying them will answer if i need two ropes on them like an actual swing…
I’ve also been working on how i’m planning on showing my object for moving over #2 once i un-install it from napton skatepark and have been experimenting with more digital 3D modeling and having been thinking about skateboarding computer games (an indoor version everybody can participate in!!!) but will discuss this more when i have got a bit further with it…
