sundays photoshoot was rained off… but i did have a fairly productive meeting with flowlosopha anyway where we discussed some things including ideas for future collabarations…
over the weekend i also payed a visit to leamington spa museum and art gallery to see ground level which is touring from the hayward…it was genuinlly the most intresting show i’ve seen in a long time!!! it featured Heath Bunting’s BorderXing which i’ve been reading a lot about for quite a while now… also had a really nice peice of work which consisted of 3 digital prints and some sound by Yolande Harris… there are a series of events happening in response to this show and for the next 2 saturdays i will be participating in sonic workshops so i’ll post any results from those soon!!!
also been trying a few things with the printing of the book for marking the internet and the physical (source). and have made a proof that i am now going to produce in a series of 10. i’ve also added (script) to the title as i realised that this book is in fact the 2nd play i’ve been thinking about writing
i’ve realised that HTML is just stage directions for the internet
also on a trip to ikea i picked up 20 identical red, circular mouse mats…not entirly sure what i’m going to do with them but i know i needed them… i think they might become points on a map – i also liked that their mouse mats!!!
i’ve been thinking about things we can/can’t/have to do when using computers everyday that in no more than 4 years won’t be issues anymore… screen position being one (IPAD’s auto correct), and mice being another (touchscreen) so mouse mats might soon be redundant (???)
degree show proposal time… its due in on the 9th so i made a start today!!!
I’m planning on making a group of networked architecture, basically a series of objects around the school of art which are linked via webcams and monitors (poss. through skype or MSN??? SUGGESTIONS???) so that the objects are showing a diffrent space of the building whilst physically occupying a space itself…
I think theres gonna be a series of digital and/or screen prints based on the building blueprints and plans but altered to show the network i will have created
i made a really quick 3D sketch of the basic object today (i’ve been making 2D sketches around this idea for a few months) so i could start to get ideas of how they will opperate in space (see photos)
more soon!!!
the website is done!!! well at least until a new piece of work demands its updating…
so www.ryan-hughes.co.uk
been busy on a few other things as well, started on a series of what might become works which i’m thinking of calling contact (in persuit of…) then each work will have a diffrent thing that its in persuit of… the first one is contact (in persuit of Thrill)… i’ll upload images asap… and explain more when i do!!!
been thinking about work for the degree show as well… i’m thinking about re-presenting physical:virtual:freedom but in a more sculptural way… with walls and plug sockets and shelves…
and i want to develop my perspex google markers and spread them throughout the building, i’m thinking about engraving information about the points on the map their pointing too on to the objects to enforce the connection of the print and the object…
i’ve also voluntereed for fierce festival http://www.wearefierce.org/ and meet the organisers and other volunteers last night… looks like i’m going to be working on Quarantine’s The Soldier’s Song at moor st. station, Dominic Johnson ‘s Departure at Trove and hopefully plan b’s a day in the life (walkers in birmingham) at MAC…
still working on my website…its feeling a lot more full than it did but still has a few design features which are bothering me…
the work pages are filling out:
PHYSICAL:VIRTUAL:FREEDOM
3, 4 &1 SPOKEN @ INTERVALS
DANCE:STAGGER (bodies reliance on architecture)
OBJECT 4 MOVING OVER #2
OBJECT FOR MOVIN ON
All feature with pages to themselves which can be seen at

also been finalising things on User:x2/Minimal.communication/aesthetic/production.EXH
with flowlosopha and it is coming along really well…speaking to various people about showing it including a NO:ID Gallery show and we’re sending an application to show it at stockholm fringe festival as well
we’ve done one photoshoot already (see pic’s) and theres another one planned for sunday 27th… more info there when there is some!!!
i’ve started on a piece of work called CIRCUITre:NAVIGATION which consists of an aestheticlly modified nintendo gameboy attached to a sat nav window mount device (again see pic’s) with the V-RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION game inserted. I’m not sure if its going to be installed on a car windsheild or a large format monitor with video footage taken from a moving car…but i’m feeling good about both options!!!
Just got back from a few days in blackpool as well which was great, ORBITECTURE at the grundy art gallery was an excelent show and the themepark-ness of blackpool generally gave me some ideas…
i’ve made my website!!!
http://ryan-hughes.co.uk/
its not finished (gimme a few days)… still feels really good to have a website live.
I’ve also designed and ordered a rubber stamp which i’m planning on using on all letters, business cards and all other analogue communications…for that personal touch!!!
Today was also my mid-point review which was alright actually!!! I installed a few things too high on the wall (i’m a tall chap) which i need to stay aware of… it was also really intresting to see how people interacted with my work… AND the things they didn’t
