I have been working with video alot – trying to upload footage from my new camera to my laptop mostly… which has been the biggest pain – sorted now though!!!
Below is a performance video i am working on provisionally called dance:stagger – i think i want to re-film it but between two concreat walls, i have started thinking about repitition in architecture, music, dancing and more generally in life quite a bit which is starting to show in this video…
Also been working on live video feeds for a performance i’ll be doing for the mapping 1 exhibition which is going to be part of the visualise festival which i’ve started spotting posters for around the city which is exciting… Next week we have Kim and Bas arriving in Birmingham from Utrecht to work on the Mapping 1 show which will be good!!!
I’ve also been collecting phone numbers to build a network to message my manifesto points too, been using facebook groups for this quite a lot and its amazing how quickly you can get over 100 mobile phone numbers!!! I’ve got a new SIM card specifically for this as well so i don’t have loads of messages coming out of my personal allowance and so thet the txt msg’s stay anominous.
Been preparing a book of photo’s of walls taken from google street view for a show in lincoln as well which i’m feeling really pleased with.

I’ve also got some work in the big society show at spacestation 65 in south london which i was really excited about!!!
And i have booked myself into a few talks which should help me out with dissertations and studio practice… theres art and the city taking place next week at MAC and a talk discussing the relationships betwen art and design being run by ikon gallery which Martain Boyce and Ryan Gander are talking at – need to get myself a dictaphone i think!!!
Another week in the studio done!!! already 3 weeks in to the final year – i canny believe it…
Anyway, my yellow wall is now a more modernist block yellow, but i have kept the reverse side of it the pale “interior” yellow that it was – i think this raises intresting questioins about what is public…hopefully…
I have also been working on my billboard, giving it an extra coat over the type, touching up the white background, and constructing a frame for it. As well as working on my playstation game – i will be experimenting with methods of presenting it in this coming week.
I’ve been taking control of my dissertation as well, i’ve brought a project folder, have written up my bibliography (so far) and have written out some quotes i’d like to use as well as starting to download a sound track for my podcast dissertation… can’t beat a bit of spiral tribe!!! i have a tutorial for this in the coming week so i’ll see if what i have is actually useful then i guess…
Been playing around quite alot in the studio as well… kicking/bouncing/balancing balls, moving around and constructing sheets out of chicken wire, and generally making mess/noise
which has been fun…
So 1st tutorial of the year today… My work could benifit from being more chaotic apparently and i could be a bit more dangerous which is something i agree with but don’t know how to approach… but i have 4 weeks until my next tutorial so i’m sure i would have found ways to inject chaos into my minimal repetoir by then!!Reading HAKIM BEY’S T.A.Z. is addressing ideas i’ve already been having along these sorts of lines and both the T.A.Z. and poetic terriorism are really intresting.
Had a pleasent transit ride today taking in some work i had done at home over the summer as well as the excersise bike from/for the mapping 1 project…
Sanded down and painted up my wall section and started scrapping out the cut-out sections of it and they are coming up really nicely. I also attached it to my billboard frame in the place of the sign that was on there, i feel the hand painted text looks a little crap (to be brutally honest) and i’m going to work on printing throught mulit-sheets as a billboard shold be.
I also arranged a student meeting to discuss fundraising and i would like this sort of activity to become part of my pratice… i need to document it well and then can further assess this as a possibility… anyway meetings on wednesday…
Tomorrow i have my first tutorial of the year which should be intresting and will have more to say then i guess!!!
