Another long gap since last posting on this blog! Another change in circumstances affecting my artistic practice. My temporary studio space reverted to commercial status in December last year so I have been in a period of re-adjustment. My current ‘studio’ is a square of kitchen worktop space which is at least adequate for continuing with the small-scale painting series started last year (I need running water). My video practice will have to be located elsewhere – out in the field, my bedroom for editing, adaptations of my domestic space and possible hire of a space for filming.
These changes, reflecting the on-going precarity of my art practice, have made me think more about the conditions under which my work is produced. The work cannot be separated from this context. I am becoming more aware that the process of maintaining my practice is an important element of the practice itself.
