Well, I went into the studio yesterday morning and decided that the magnolia and brown makeover is ok and I was a bit mean about the apprentice decorators in the last post because actually they’ve done a good job.
Part of the deal that DAD has on the studio is that we will do up a meeting room, so we have got our DAD designer and intern on the case. We have some budget for this thanks to a previous upcycling project we ran called Remade in Dover. As far as possible we will be reusing unwanted metal, wood etc.
Co-director of DAD, Joanna, and I also managed to get some lovely free chairs for the studio that were destined for the skip and we’re on the look out for more free stuff.
Started the move in today. Met the facilities manager and discovered I have to get the sinks. The studio is warm but sadly has been given a magnolia and brown makeover which was not asked for.
The studio is in a building being used for training young people in various skills and so the “decorators” have clearly been applying what they’ve learnt.
I am going to have to do something about the colour. I could kick myself for not thinking of saying something beforehand. Maybe they can be persuaded to paint it again …..
i also need to clarify access – I was told 24-hour access but there is no security there after 8 – tonight it was 7.30 – so presumably if anyone wanted to work late they’d need authorisation and would probably not be allowed in there alone. Weekend access needs clarifying too.
Plenty to discuss tomorrow.
Well I’m starting to get my things together ready for the big move. My office cum studio is so cluttered I can hardly think straight let alone make work.
I move into the studio on 10 January, just in time to get some serious work done for my MA which I am picking up again after a year out next week.
