What a week.
Installation is now well under way, the pressure was the need to paint the floors on Friday so the major construction had to be finished by then and the spaces cleared. I just made the deadline despite a last minute decision to put a lowered false ceiling on the space I’ve created for the 3D piece.
Next week priorities are to complete the blackout of the video space and get the screens and speakers installed by Monday afternoon.
Tuesday brings a professional practice presentation and viva so this weekend has been all about tweaking the file and updating my digital portfolio.
Wednesday I should be in a position to hang the prints and make a decision about lighting for the corridor.
Thursday I should have the final brass viewer for the 3D piece so the lid can go on and be sealed and painted and the wiring can be finished. I’m waiting for white fleece to come from e-bay to finish the false ceiling which will diffuse the lighting.
Friday will be about cataloguing the installation and hopefully putting some images on here.
Here are some images from inside the 3D piece to give a flavour of the left hand screen from the video triptych and what viewers will see when they look through the eyepieces.
Installation is now well underway at 12 days to assessment and counting.
Priority 1 was getting the walls built and painted in time to paint the floors tomorrow – tick.
The ceiling is on the projection space, the 3D installation is ready for assembly tomorrow morning and I’ve begun blacking out the video space.
Next week will revolve around completing the installation and tweaking positioning, lighting etc for maximum effect.
Installation shots to follow but in the meantime here are some details from the series of drypoints that will line the corridor leading to the 3D installation.
Now it starts.
The video triptych is edited, the three monitors are purchased, and I’m PAT tested up large. Blackout fleece is ready for the video space.
Plinths are built, a van has finally been purchased, catalogue images are ready for the printers. I have lighting and viewers ready for installation in the interior model.
Now all I have to do is build the three walls that will divide my space into three and this crazy plan might just work.
As so often happens, making stuff has got me off the hook.
Whenever I’ve felt I’m drifting, that things aren’t really coming together, I’ve just kept on making stuff. When you make, happy accidents can happen, you have a body of stuff that, if all else fails, you can show. Stop making and that doesn’t happen.
For me making stuff seems to use one part of my brain but leave the creative bit to roam free to have ideas. Make stuff and have a notebook and pen handy.
Anyway, what I made is this video set which was intended just to be used to shoot some interior video sequences but has ended up being an interesting object in its own right. Equipped with peepholes and strategically placed lighting and iconic objects it will become one layer of the degree show installation.
