The focus shifts again this coming week. gimme shelter is now up and running and ready for assessment on Monday. My Blurb book is in transit and will be here on Monday, my tutors are happy for me to include it as soon as it arrives.

So as I said, the focus shifts, with no access to the studios for a week it’s time to put the dissertation to bed. It’s going to be a substantial re-write, the subject (the relevance of local in contemporary art) wasn’t interesting me sufficiently and was a diversion from my practical work. The intention is to shift the focus of the virtual exhibition to deal more directly with how my chosen artists (Heather and Ivan Morison and Carwyn Evans) and others deal with the subject of home. This will tie in much more directly with the practical work so both should benefit.

Meanwhile when I need a break from that, I’ll be putting together a digital portfolio of images and short video extracts together with a statement for the first of a number of applications to get my work into open shows, the deadline for this first one is 14th February.

In the meantime I’m allowing myself to get a little excited over an approach from a small contemporary gallery here in Wales about a prospective solo show of the gimme shelter work as a direct result of putting my work onto Facebook. The same thing happened to one of my tutors too so I would urge anyone reading this to make as much digital noise as possible, it really can pay off.
