Hey, so my paintings are shaping up a bit now. I had originally aimed to have around thirty large paintings to choose from to have in my final show but for a number of reasons I think I will aim for at least ten instead.

– It’s expensive being a painter! Spectrum mediums are difficult to get hold of but just lovely to work with.

– I only have limited space in my Studio in Uni and spending so much time with oil fumes can’t be good! So have been branching out of my studio into the first year space when they are not around. I’ll do what I can to get this done.

I’m getting a rhythm going with my preparation and painting. I have two paintings on the go at the moment, three in the priming process, I have to stretch one and build two more. So when I get stuck for ideas, there’s always something I can do, even if it is just creating beautiful surfaces to play with.

Has anyone thought about what they would like to do after uni?

I went to a seminar in Oriel Myrddin this morning which was about making the most out of empty buildings.

It is more beneficial to the landlords of empty properties to lend the space to non-profit organisations such as artists for studios than to leave them as they have to pay a fee for leaving them empty. It’s also great for the artists to get together in a safe regular space too.

On Friday I exhibited two of my old paintings in Oriel Bach in Swansea where I’m from. I was a bit gutted I couldn’t put any of my current work into the show but it was pretty last minute and my current paintings are very big and all in Carmarthen so it was a bit short notice to bring them down.

Today I began scaling up my smaller acrylics onto canvas in Oil. I use Spectrum Alkaflow and Spectraflow usually, but have begun these new paintings with just oil and turps substitute. It creates a different effect but it’s good to mix it up a bit.

On Saturday I entered ‘Give me a Moment’ into Welsh Artist of the Year and I intend to enter the painting in my previous post into the Eisteddfod.

I’m going to Swansea to do some more painting tonight at my friend’s studio.

Happy Painting! :)

Hello, I’m Rhiannon, this is my first blog. I’m a painter from South West Wales in third year at uni! At the moment getting work ready for my final show in Carmarthen.

I’ve been tidying my space up in uni and trying to get together some compositions for my final show. I’ve been making up canvases, ordering paints (which havent come after a week!) and painting acrylic ideas for final paintings.

I have some old paintings in Oriel Bach this week. Open exhibition, one week only called ‘So you think you’re art enough??’
