Rothko was intent upon exploring subjects other than urban and nature scenes. He sought subjects that would complement his growing interest with form, space, and colour. The world crisis of war lent this search an immediacy because he insisted that the new subject matter have a social impact, yet be able to transcend the confines of current political symbols and values.

I enjoy Rothko’s use of colours, and space. I remember seeing he’s work at Tate is made a great impression on me I loved the space they where hung in the atmosphere was so calm and peaceful.

I put my work up in Frinton’s Slack Space. Frinton’s space is a shop window gallery space. It is in a public space that can be seen by loads of on lookers. I am really proud to have my work there and to be seen by a wider audience.

Slack Space Colchester is a not-for-profit volunteer run initiative that successfully transforms empty shops and buildings into community art spaces, where local artists can present new and exciting work to the general public as well as create a cultural buzz in the town centre.

There aim is to provide free accessible exhibitions, workshops and events for the general public and also to interrupt and enhance retail footfall in the town centre with art, music and performance.

Looking back over some of my old work from this year you can see where I have got inspiration from. It the beginning of the term I started experimenting with drips and colours, to get the right amount of water for the drips to fall, and the right amount of colour for it not to blend together.

You can see in the picture above that the colours are about to blend to much in this picture to make a horrid brown colour. This picture was just a tester as a lot of my paintings are testers so they get painted over.

Again my inspiration Cy Twombly.
