40×40 inches acrylic and metallic paint ink and glitter on canvas.

I have finished my black hole series, I really enjoyed the process.

I started with watered down paints and over layed different shades go blue and green until the paints bended together in a pleasing way. I preferred this to the first method I did, on the other painting I painted with think paints and did not get the blending I wanted. There are so many differences between the two even though they are matching paintings but personally the second one is my favourite. This is because I learnt the processes I wanted in the first painting and brought it all together in the second one.

I painted these because I wanted to express my feelings of anxiety. Blue seemed like the perfect colour to show this. Although I love the colour blue and it doesn’t always mean depression and sadness to me this time it did. I choose to paint two, one to represent my depression the other anxiety but they ended up meshing in to one in each of the painting, as they do in life.

The progression of this painting was a lot more straight forward than the first painting as I knew I little better what I was doing in this one, I knew the effects I wanted to use.

Here is a picture of the development.

I knew that it was not complete here because it was missing depth layers and detail. So I layered it up with lighter blue tones and used a polka doting effect to add detail.

I finished the first painting in the series that I am doing at the moment. I am really happy with the outcome it was a little different than a planned as I had planned to paint the middle on the picture black but I changed my mind and it now looks much better.

40×40 inches acrylic and metallic paint ink and glitter on canvas.

the picture look much better in person, because in this you can’t see the glitter and the depth of the colours. I used glitter so it would look like millions of stars gleaming. I also used sliver and gold paint for the dots so they would shine.

The progression in the painting was quite complex as the idea I had in my head didn’t look right on the canvas, so I had to develop my idea as I went along.

Here are the pictures of the development.

The last two days I have been hand making my own canvases. I hadn’t done this before and it was very difficult but well worth it I am very pleased with the results and plan to make more in the future.

I have always been interested in space and mindfulness. I like the thought of space that there is more to the world that what is around me as society norms often depresses me, when I think that we are all made of star dust and so rare it makes me feel better. I was thinking about carrying on my current theme of blue and using these two images as inspiration. The second picture is of a black hole, a black hole is an extraordinarily massive, improbably dense knot of space-time that makes a living swallowing or slinging away any morsel of energy that strays too close to its dark, twisted core. I feel like my anxiety can be like a black hole swallowing all that is good.

I am currently in the process of making two square canvas’ that are the same size and making coordinating paintings on each.

After the pain of writing my dissertation my creativity have been at an all time low. I have had little time to paint and when I do its in dark blues.I think this comes with the change of my mood. The weather also has a part to play it is now cold and dark, no more bright summer/autumn oranges or reds. but saying that I feel that the change of colours is a good change I love the colours and colours are what is important about my work, so on refection I quite like the change and I will carry it on.

It also comes from my love of water and nature, my inspiration came from photography like this.
