I have been looking at many different artist these are just some of my favourites. I have yet again found myself in a bit of a creative runt so I have been looking at some inspiring works, I also think I need to go to London to a gallery and see some in reality.
This first artist a looked at was Chris Ofili, he is a turner winning artist who mostly paints in bright bold colours. He is influenced by African culture and often used elephant dung in his work. He also uses paints, resin, glitter and college. I like his work because of his use of colours, swirling patterns and that he uses glitter in his work like a do. This pictures below are some that have glitter in.
I Have looked at Anselm Kiefer he is a German painter and sculptor. His works incorporate materials such as straw, ash, clay, lead, and shellac. I like his work because me uses stars like I do and its very atmospheric.
These are the pieces of his work that I like that most.
Gerhard Richter is a German artist known for his contemporary paintings. I like his technic that he uses with a squeegee board to smudge oil paints on paper. I like the look of this effect and will try something like it soon.
Cy Twombly is one of the favourite artist, I went to see his work in Tate Britain and it really made a great impression on me, I love the colours and the dripping effects that he uses. Out of the three the pink on is my favourite I think I might create something inspired be it.
Last but not lest Yayio Kusama is an other artist I get a lot of inspiration from. I love her paintings use of patterns and colours. her paintings have already inspired many of my pictures. here are just some of my favourites
After talking about where my inspiration comes from, I noticed that a use mostly blogs with lots of photos. So I decided to make a little post replicating the blogs that I look at.
My tumblr and my Pinterest are my main source of inspiration.
Music is a big part of my process depending on my mood my music often matches. for example if I want an upbeat feeling to my work I will create an upbeat playlist with songs that match or the latter.
I decided to put this in to affect for my next piece, I made a playlist on my Ipod and painted the to mood of the music. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLi_CkbwkBq3NC3xheXwfoohaOKt-8dNkj this was the playlist for this piece.
This was the outcome.
Scale was very important as I needed space for expressions of movement. at one point I was sitting in the middle of the piece painting around myself. It was very important for me to be actually in the piece to make it personal.
Some could argue that it would have been I good performance piece, like Jackson Pollack was in his work personally I am not a big fan of his work and I will change my work to get rid of this effect. But I am not a big fan a documenting myself videoing me creating something like this would make me very uncomfortable.
I think this is something I need to overcome as it would be good to see my process just minus the my awful singing.
my painting ‘Splash’ is inspired by a painting by Anji Ar I found it on Pinterest. I loved the colours and thought I could make my own additions to in.
This is the painting a made, I started with a white wash over all of the canvas and then blended blue from bottom to top, then adding the pink over the white. I then used watered down paint and put it in a spray bottle and sprayed it on to the canvas. I really enjoy using the spray bottles it created such a good effect that I will carry on using.
Why did I use those colours? I did this because the picture that I was inspired by used the similar colour, also it comes down to mood I will only paint with light colours is a am feeling happy and positive.
Why did I use the dripping effect? some think that dripping is a sad effect symbolising depressed feelings as it looks like rain that can be linked to S.A.D (Seasonal affective disorder) which is when people get depressed in long periods of rain or dull weather. For my it is completely different I enjoy rain I find it very homely and comforting. so that is why I enjoy using that effect. I also feel that drips are kinda of a trade mark to my work.
I am starting a new project at University it sounds like a great opportunity to explore and create new work. The project is called Project 10 and involves 10 students over 10 week working within the loose theme of 10.
The student will start creating work on Monday evening and over the week create whatever we like (to the lose theme of 10) in the universities ‘White Space’ we will present thework on the following Monday. We are doing this to make more use of the facilities we have at university that are not being used.
There is a blog that goes with this project that will be updated weekly with the different students work. http://auditchaos.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/10-prjct-day-27.html
I already have some fun and creative ideas for the space and can’t wait to start the project.
