a few more pics of their work… i think it would be nice to display these somewhere although i ended up using cartridge paper that wasn’t that thick and they havn’t turned out as well as they could on decent paper, will have to remember next time not to compromise for the sake of saving a few quid. maybe it’ll be nice for the one’s wanting to develop their work in print to exhibit those at the end of my residency, i’m half way through now, i can’t believe how quickly the time goes, i’m starting to think about an exhibition at the end of the project which is april, which sounds far away but is really close in terms of organising stuff- lots to think about!

The lurgi has finally got me! i thought i was going to get away with not getting this cold but i’m really ill. So i’ve just missed the first day back after half term which is a shame as i’ve got big plans for this half term.

before going into that tho, a quick update on the last few weeks…

with the help of kate and don from the print centre i ran a morning workshop with the other half of year 11, we did a similar workshop to before (drypoint on drypoint card and chine colet) so that they had similar experience to the other group and they seemed to really enjoy themselves- they’re a lively bunch and we had more kids and less room, so it was a messy experience but good fun and i think they’ve done some fantastic work.

there’s a handful of kids keen on print so they’re going to come in and work with me when they have their tuesday lessons to build up their portfolios for their exams, i think it’ll be good to spend focussed sessions over some time with a small group, i feel like they only really see me and my work from a distance or in snippets of time so will be good to feel i’m passing on some knowledge and engaging with the kids a bit more.

here’s some picture’s of the sculpture work i did at gwaith powdwr bit late but i’ve only just extracted them off the camera they were on.

i’m slowly beginning to think i’m not really a technology type person, better late than never tho i guess. although i did recently discover batch resizing!!! in photoshop- its a godsend, i can just click ‘automate batch’ and it takes photos from a folder, one at a time resizes them for the web, saves them at optimal web thingy then puts them in a folder ready for me to upload to my blog!

brilliant! i just sit and watch it doing it and it takes about a minute compared to an hour of me faffing with resizing each one individually ! very happy me :-)

these pictures don’t really do the piece justice but give a bit of an idea.

i really liked working collaboratively and think i’ll be doing more of it in the future, it’s so much more fun making work with other people than by yourself. the theme of the piece was to do with boundaries and freedom- the birds were caught in the fence almost morphing into it and then freeing themselves, i’m not sure it was succesful but looked great and i think it is a work in progress or theme in ongoing progress..
