Have started to prepare work for my exhibition next February and the first piece of work I want to complete is some digital prints on Japanese paper.
Well, I went into Glasgow Print studio to discuss whether it would be possible to do this on their new printer.
“No way!” says the director standing in the middle of his state-of-the-art new printing premises.
“That machine cost us £6,000”.
OK he has a point so its back home to fiddle with my own printer and try to work out why some prints are coming out so heavily inked as to be unusable.
Well, I guess it is just another hurdle that those of us working with new media face weekly if not daily. Unlike making traditional art we can’t ring up a friend or seek out expert advice on how to solve these problems, because nobody has ever done it before. It is a case that we all have to work it out as we go along
Have joined Glasgow Print Studio in their brand new premises – 107 Trongate. This must be the smartest arts centre in the UK. It is great having everyone under one roof with the added bonus of the Russian cafe/restaurant built into it.
Just back from Venice Biennale. Too much to see to write about – sufficient to say suspect there is a sea-change and people are beginning to question the accepted model. Also very political.
Back home in Scotland and I am keen to help set up an Open Studios week for the Central Belt.
The Perthshire Open Studios , all 77 of them, were a resounding success . It was spread over ten days which does seem a lot but if you look at the enormous area they covered and the difficulty in getting to some of the more remote ones then that time is needed.
Have got a handful of folk so far who are interested…watch this space.
Have just uploaded “You have been spotted” video to Youtube. Yes it is an old piece of public art, an installation for the Gallery of Modern Art Glasgow, part of my portfolio for Glasgow School of Art but I found the video footage the other day while going through my files and I thought:”there is a short film in this!”
