At first I thought it will be a chronological backtracking of events and projects throughout the last year..but it seems like one thing connects to nother in a different manner.
So the next piece i will introcuse is not the first nor the last one created during residency.
Being involved with the gallery and its ongoing events connected me to many project including Shanta Renee’s curatorial project : Empowerment-female viewpoint-..which will be followed by its male counterpart.
the fact that it was based around an issue of which people have strong opinions about and mostly emotionally invested, made it challenging.
I had to make the topic mine in a way that would not cause anyone to build up a value system around.
As i have never really encountered any sort of gender based discrimination during my practice and life i felt it wouldn’t be accurate to portrait a world that i am not part of.
Based on my personal journey and accumulated knowledge; I decided to celebrate the freedom and openness of a (female) artist’s life today.
As my format I chose video and audio as it deemed the most widely understandable communication tool in contemporary existence.
The outcome is a video piece :
Its all me and I give it all to you
duration:4:46
The work is a kind of thank you note for all the past feminists who fought for my equality and enabled me to have a life and artistic practice open and full of possibilities. Using as its base the home I find and all the inspiration that it aroused ..within the studio environment and its imminent surroundings.
