Karla Black nominated for the Turner prize – fantastic – regardless of opinion on the Turner prize, I adore Karla Blacks work and the way she so successfully manages to remain totally contemporary while looking back to the legacy left by the likes of Eva Hesse etc. I almost got a chance to meet up with her in Glasgow last year had she not been flitting back and forward to her solo show in Edinburgh to re hang pieces that constantly teeter, and often succumb, to collapse. For all of us who create work which refuses to be packaged easily, doesn’t like to relocate, and threatens to disintegrate before the exhibitions out, Karla Blacks a real inspiration.
