well….I’ve become an Student Ambassador for a-n…..thought I could spread the word to fellow students and let them see for themselves how it can really help both as a student and as a profesional artist……
….the lecturers have decided it’s a great idea as they have never had anyone do this at their establishment….so they’ve asked me to talk to all the Fine Art students about what a-n is and what it does….aarrrggghhhh!…I feel one of those tongue stuck to the roof of the mouth moments!!!….
I strongly believe that good communication is vital to succeed, no matter what you do…..by listening, sharing good practice and offering advice and opportunities, a-n is really vital for students like myself.
By sharing and spreading the word about what a-n has to offer and encouraging others to join it can only add to and build on what it already does very well….
The joy of being a mixed media artists is that materials have no boundaries….well, for me I love flotsam and Jetsam, the opportunity of breathing new life into something old and forgotten, the possibilities of creating new connections, fresh meanings…….along with the fact that I really love how installation art draws the viewer to encounter new experiences through a visual and emotional feast….My dissertation is about how and why artists use materials such as cloth to evoke dormant memories and how they often use installation to gain successful and effective results.Artist such as Annette Messager, Louise Bourgeios, …other artists I have been researching further are Christian Boltanski, Anselm Kiefer, Tracey Emin,Robert Rauschenberg….. all these artists use installation art to enable the viewer to encounter first hand, through its construction, an effective impression of dispersed subjectivity. The clever articulation and positioning of the objects heightens the viewers awareness as they have to physically enter….its a whole mind and body experience. The artists present the viewer with elements for them to experience directly achieving a heightened appreciation. The fact that they all use cloth, clothes, textiles within their work takes the installations to another level…they become metaphors, carriers, bearers of significant meaning…provoking and arousing almost palpable responses such as memories and emotions……I am still working on my dissertation and have a lot of research to do but feel that I am turning the corner as to how to present my point…..I just have to thrash it out and stop being distracted!
First of many…
Whilst I should be slaving away on my 3rd year dissertation, I find myself strangely drawn to anything but!!!
Avoidance techniques would get me a first I am sure! so after walking the dog to clear my head… a bit like Monty….taking a much needed break, I am refreshed and hopefully raring to go! I am sure most 3rd year students are starting to feel the pressure, dissertations, research journals, fund raising, professional development, studio practice….etc, etc, etc aarrrggghhhhhhhhh!
….anyway, my blog….highlighted below – is basically a record of my ramblings as a new and enthusiastic self employed artist/Degree student. The last post being our trip to the Frieze Art Fair, every student should go at least once just to experience current contemporary art out there at the moment!
Anyway, just thought I’d touch base!
