Lockdown Masks
This project is ongoing.
As lockdown continues, more women are murdered.
Their names are being recorded on face masks made from tea towels.
Making Masks.
This week I get my sewing machine back from my daughter and will be able to continue with the making side of this project.
The masks are all ready to stitch together, with names sewn in by hand, but the sewing machine has been appropriated to make actual masks we need to wear in public, luckily my daughter has taken over production of these, and for a household of 5, we need quite a few.
I’m now thinking about how to display these masks. Do they become a series of photographs, I’m leaning towards the idea of asking female friends to put them on and have their photo taken. I’d quite like to create an image of all the women together wearing them, this could have maximum impact on realising the numbers of women who have been affected.
One way of doing this could be to use a green screen so we are not altogether at once and then photoshopping it together. Or just using individual photographs. I’m still undecided and need to experiment with this idea a bit more.
