Arrived in Trieste with Robert Good this morning amidst torrential downpour.Met by our host Elisa Vladilo and family;
Elisa is coordinating the Italian leg of our tour and we have spent the day discussing our plans to visit artists and artist groups working in Trieste and further afield. Later swimming in the Gulf of Trieste. The real work starts tomorrow. I will be interested to discover how location affects artist practice.
Until tomorrow……
We arranged to stay with Elisa Vladilo, an Italian Artist working with public and community art and with a wide network of artist friends in Austria, Slovenia and Italy. She very kindly devised a packed three day schedule of artist meetings.
First we met an Argentinian Artist called Guillermo Giampietro, working in film and performance who talked about his early life in Argentina and being arrested for performance critical of the regime then. Our own artistic practice seemed rather tame after this point.
Our next rendezvous was with photographer Carlos Alberto Andreasi. and curator Maria Campitelli. We looked at exhibitons Maria had curated and discussed Carlos’s projects.
Next was a visit to Barbara Stefani,a painter and Adriana Torregrossa working with photography.
We saw a wide range of diverse and varied work and a common theme seemed to be getting work in front of an audience. For the Art Language Location project we made some interesting connections and concluded that Cambridge could probably benefit from an exchange of ideas with some of these artists.
More to follow………..
