Well it's all done! It's been assessed and will be on show at Kingston University until friday 12th.
Can't say if it was a success on the opening, it seemed busy and people seemed happy. Think we're too close to it to really know.
If you're interested in coming, all the details you need to know are here; http://staffnet.kingston.ac.uk/multimedia/oneoff/
Would be nice to hear some non-biased opinions! Will post photos of some of the excellent pieces soon…
Days till degree show – 2
Well, not till the degree show actually, that's 10, it should actually read, days till degree assessment, but who cares
Anyway.
Today there was a big old discussion regarding 'space' (or the lack of it). Kidding. It's looking really good, and finally some peoples work / areas got sorted which is going to make the whole exhibition flow and work a lot better. I'm excited!
We also changed our lights slightly, put up the books, got all our electricals PAT tested (phew, the ancient slide projector i got for £5 from a car boot sale is ok!), and hung our 200cm x 200cm Gilbert and George in the main university foyer. It looks brilliant if i say so myself!
Ugo Rondinone says that his work 'is never over and done with, everything can recur or be reviewed' which is fitting to our work. It's kind of final and like an ending this big show but i'm sure we'll come back to some of the works, and index a few more of them in the future!
Days till degree show – 3
Today seemed to be the day everything fell into place. Despite some grizzly tears at around 10am due to a dodgy transformer for our lights everything else seemed to fit into place, just at the right time! We got shelves fitted, gloves hung, projectors installed, first coat of floor paint down and did the nightmare lights!
Our housemates (they study Graphics, boo) completed everything today at 5pm. It must be strange knowing that's it, there's nothing else you can do. I imagine it'll feel like an empty void, nothing to work towards and nothing to do. Must feel like a bit of an anti-climax too, there's no explosion or fireworks it's just time passing. It is exciting though, as the start of our artistic lives is about to begin, i can't wait to start making work outside of the art institution and understand the real importance of our practise. It's going to be fun.
It's still suprising how easy some people seem to be taking it, considering this is the show their whole degree has been building up to, a little more oomph wouldn't go a-miss!
Days till degree show – 8
According to our schedule, we're well ahead. We've constructed, bolted, sanded, filled, painted and painted and painted already. Will hopefully be installing tomorrow, or at least starting to.
It's feeling a bit like impending doom, the tension is picking up, the panic and despair is starting to show.
Can't wait till it's all over but when it is, it's going to be sad. At least I might be able to go to all the amazing exhibitions I'm missing!!
Days till Degree Show – 11
Today we started 'installing' in earnest. Luckily a plucky 2nd year Fine Art Photography student, who has an incredible talent for working hard was there to assist. The wooden supports for all the walls and base were bolted together and now stand proudly in the room – which is suprisingly empty considering this was the first day we could start getting the work in.
Perhaps they will still reeling over the shock of Norway winning the Eurovision song contest? I think Greece (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBmYE2FACQ8) were robbed.
