im off tommorow!!
packed and still anxious. hurt my back whilst trying to do the case up, thats not good, hope it goes away tonight. at least heathrow is working now, id rather the planes are working than my back.
the slides from mexico still have not found thier way here, italy and aus are still to come too. i hope they will be at home when i return.
ive tried to contact paul simon, to see if he would like to sing “please dont take my kodachrome away” but ive not heard back. worth another try whilst i am there i think.
not been to america before. it seems a long way away right this minute.
i am sure it’ll be fine
well the 2nd lot of slides from france were just spot on. denmark, spain, ireland, belgium, germany, greece & nederland are wonderful too. i was a bit worried about italy as he was busy doing other important stuff and not answering emails, but i have just heard that he has shot & sent. mexico was my next worry as they were sent in october and ive not got them back, so i emailed dwaynes and they processed them 10nov so i presume they are on thier way here (?). australia was blurry so ive purchased a few rolls on ebay and asked them to send 1to aus. now this is gonna be a race, the plan is i get it processed when i go out to kansas but i have a feeling it might have to be ups’ed to kansas from aus, i think thats gonna be expensive.
ive booked a car and i am realising its not that far away now. my 1st trip to america and i am going to a very small town in the middle of kansas to shoot a roll of film, on my own. i cant afford it (at all) but i have to do it. well really i didnt/dont have to, says my head, but the heart says otherwise.
im getting a touch anxious.
i decided on monday i would go and take My photo in the project in hemel hempstead today as the weather was going to be dry. well it was dry and beautifully sunny, such a good day for kodachrome. i got stuck in traffic on the m25 so what was supposed to be a 2hr40min trip turned into a 4hr one.
the old kodak site was huge, there seems to be loads of businesses there now, a great big park of them, i felt quite small scale wise. anyways i found the bit of the site that had the address on and took some photos. the bonus was it was quite colourful, big blue doors, red metal crates and autumn trees. it was a bit of a long job finding it as the postcode on the packet no longer exsist so it took lots of phone calls to various places.
a follow on from the last blog… the french photographer is going to re-do the images and has a friend with a spare roll of kodachrome so thats good news as i have 2rolls spare but only 1envelope. the slides from japan came yesterday and i have uploaded them too so it is all coming together at the mo.
i am scanning
had film arrive from france, netherlands, austria & norway. im having trouble deciding which images to choose. i was choosing 2from each location tho the netherlands has 5 images that are almost identical so do i just pick1? i think i’ll pick2. the french ones look to have been taken in twilight so the images are quite dark, which i can’t decide if it is a problem or not, as all of the others are in daylight or have been taken inside. the netherlands are ok but no2 are jumping out and the film from norway was blank-we think the camera is broken so ive had to send another film out to him quick and he’s having to borrow a working camera.
i went on a snapping trip to town this week my plan was to go do a series of images but i chickened out, what i was gonna do felt uncomfortable and i didnt feel i could justify it. so instead i took shots of london that had some colour going on with a bit of something else in there too. i ended up at charing cross buying a poppy of a chelsea pensioner and taking his photo, we chatted for a while and i promised to take him a print when developed. he then serenaded me with “when will i see you again….” and i left for the train blushing. a colourful afternoon all round.
so
my speadsheety document is shaping up, i have10 that are in the act of shooting their roll, 6 have been shot and sent towards processing & 6 thet have been uploaded to the group site
http://www.flickr.com/groups/kodachrome_pre_paid_p…
& 1 that has not got round to shooting anything – that’ll be me. i know where im going but have put it off & off. & for the last2weeks my car has been broken, so this is now the week to do it. ive got some extra rolls left over so i have been thinking about what to do with them. i have decided, so gotta do that too.
processing packets are being accepted til the end of nov so nows the time.
im still quite nervous re getting images back from everyone involved – its such a remote way of working and comunicating via flickrmail is not the most responsive method. ive had to play safe and recruit another photographer from belgium as the other person was not replying to flickrmail or email since the beggining of august. it didnt feel good.
i wonder if i will get the slides that were lost in the post sent back to me, it would be funny if someone diverted a roll of film from its destination, shot it and posted it for processing-dont think it’ll happen tho.
i was planning to have a lazy day today, its been so hectic since liverpool in sep that i have not really stopped at all. so i was lounging in the bath with yesterdays paper listening to the dog up to something- it turned out she wa enjoying some chewing gum that my daughter had dropped. the panic has died down now and the vet & google don’t think she should be critical so im now back on track with my slow day – off to make coffee and friends with the sofa.
