a good day today
got a message from sweden with another “yes please can i join, sounds interesting”. i was near there a couple of weeks ago on a residency and was momentarily tempted to go and capture it myself, but if you set project rules then i reckoned one should stick to them.
i spent the morning double checking whats what/where and trying to find photographers in italy and austria. this evening they both came back with “yes please that sounds interesting” too. so now im just down to portugal, think i have someone but they are unsure about hunting down a PO Box. feeling relieved that this bit is nearly done as all the films should really be sent for processing before november – just incase. i think alot of peolpe are gonna use up film they’ve had for a while and there will be a rush or even a stampede up to the end of december.
oooh it’s getting exciting.
switzerland & new jersey films are in the post to the processing lab, might be a couple of weeks before they get to me tho.
now anticipating what they look like. is the film too expred that nowt comes out? although i am ok with odd colouring due to age/storage of film. main concern is ive asked people to either have the PO Box in the centre of the shot, or if it is a building – the front door, or if it is a demolished building – where you think the front door would have been – in the centre. mainly because this is the address where the processing packet would have arrived. Plus it would, hopefully make a cohersive and interesting group of images.
I suppose thats the problem/advantage with this sort of project. ive given it over to others, whether it comes back how ive instructed is part of it.
ive started exploring the possibility of turning the project into a book, not got very far yet so if anyone has any advice etc please let me know. id be rather grateful.
so far ive sent off 11 rolls of kodachrome and have not got any back. so today i have sent “have you got it” emails out. its all ticking along, i hope. quite a few are away on holiday so there are more films to send in a couple of weeks and ive yet to hear back from sweden and austria, i think i will wait a couple more weeks before i search flickr for replacement photographers. no luck yet on finding galleries tho – i must keep trying and crossing fingers.
forgot to mention that i think ive lost the plot regarding this project.
i have booked flights to kansas in december so i can photograph – on kodachrome – dwaynes and its people and have my film processed on the last day. i asked them and they said “yes” so i had to do it. ooh and im gonna take my video camera and make a film too.
so now ive got all this going on.
ive got 19 locations/people out of 23 eager to participate (im gonna do the uk address if i can find it – the postcode does not exist anymore and the post office are proving hard work). the admin is getting long and complicated.
ive also had to buy lots of kodachrome via ebay as i did have quite a few rolls but i used them in past projects, so im really getting scared that this is foolish plan rather than a great idea. i suppose ive done it now so ive got to forge ahead.
i need to try and find exhibition space/s that would be interested now. ive tried a few biggies but unsolicited proposals are not popular. trouble is i think this would warrant a biggish location.
the end of kodachrome is a big deal.
so thats a bit more of a summary as to what the projects about.
im going to keep the blog posted as to what happens along the way. this one will be a long and complicated journey, i hope.
update already….
just ticked italy off the chart, only got sweden & austria left to reply.
found the old hemel hempstead address too.
going great guns today, what with starting the blog ‘n all
