I am expecting to find evidence of crafts like basket making (especially to catch Eels!), presumably something similar for fishing. Also, I’d like to look at building techniques, of homes and boats. I’ve already seen evidence of early people in the area using shells for jewellery (we assume). Lacemaking and woad dying are two that I expect to be able to take forward to the workshop phase. I want to go back as far as I can, then find work that can be reproduced by the local people who don’t usually make things.
The workshops will be in Spring 2016 and then a display at the Ouse Washes Festival in July.
If I can get further funding, I’m intending to use local professional artists to recreate work, particularly pottery and willow weaving.
