This is a deeply personal, on going project.
It follows on from my degree final project, in which I focused on creating shrines dedicated to people and connecting us to those around us. Through this I become interested in the idea of magick, spiritual and philosopy within art work. I now wish to explore this more.
I’ve been doing a bit of research on other artists and people in general who are intrigued by magic.
It turns out that a fair few well known artists are related to magic and such things. Including William Turner, Pablo Picasso and Josef Beuys.
Turner, who ‘encouraged perceptions of himself as someone whose pictures evolved through a process of mysterious wizardry..’ (Tate Britain, 2014)
He is said to have been ‘Likened to the alchemist of legend capable of tranforming base materials into gold.’ (Tate Britain, 2014)
The way inwhich each of these artists relate to magic is in a different way – I will look at the others in a future post, and go on to discuss each one more.
"The world is your kaleidscope" - James Allen. I am a whimiscal mixed media artist, currently fascinated by the use of shrines, relics and magic within art, as well as historical places / items / customs and the idea of fantasy realms. I am interested in combining transparent and opaque materials to expoit their constrasting properties. My work tends to be highly detailed and intricate, often containing hidden aspects which can only be viewed up close. Â
