invite & press release are ready!!
With much input & patience from artists involved, its really frustrating how long it takes to think and then write when you are out of the zone and out of practice. but i am now happy go as far as to say satisfied with the material – now to update the check in & out website. -tomorrows job, when i have a childminder hoorah and before i take my 4yr old to his first school disco. WTF, feeling old but obviously trying to youth it up with text speak. apologies for visual swearing.
went to the fringe artists drinks last night, have to say the buffet looked brilliant but had annoyingly eaten before going. Was fun to see who was involved, as still feel really new to the area. I knew 2 maybe 3 people. Then got a night in the pub -brilliant with lots of lovely artists and Lynda (showing in Check out in september) who drove down from London especially. We sat up until 1 talking and I was woken up at 6 by the boys who were lively…..
Feeling a little jaded but overall very happy. Eva Stenram came to see the house today and the room. Think she’ll be showing 11 prints which i am really excited about seeing.
Finished work hoorah!!!!!!
The Standard Package Trilogy is complete, it is now on show at Open Art Orebro Sweden until 11th September and if you want to have a look at the completed project it is online at http://www.livpennington.com
been ages since i have managed to get on the computer and as you can see i am not alone so there will be typos if i manage to post this. Its been deleted once already.
So quick summary of the last month:
– Birthrites talks went well, really enjoyed Lisa Baraitser and Imogen Tyler’s talk and was good to hear them twice. lots more for my reading list. Things to think about is natality not mortality and other ways to approach the body and being a woman without the use of abject.
Was brilliant to see Hermione Wiltshire’s work in London as there was pieces i hadnt seen before.
– I landed 2 days assessing work at short notice of 2nd and 3rd year degree students – has made me think about portfolios, how to advice further, how things relate electronically, the possibilities of e.portfolios and why is a bad CV obviously a bad one but a good one is harder to explain & obtain. My brilliant parents did childcare so i ended up with 75% of the wages rather than the 25% i would have ended up with after train fare & childcare costs.
– Half term workshops for Creative Foundation – Folkestone Triennial
I ran 2 mornings of maskmaking and kite making at 2 different centres round the folkestone area for under 10’s and their parents/carers. Was really good fun and completely different to anything i have done before. Sequins are a pain in the A to sweep uo though. hopefully more wll come up over the summer.
Its nearly Triennial Time!!!!
I have just over 2 weeks left and need to update show blog, make an invite (print & e.flyer), press release and mail it all out.
I have just had my first remove reply from mailing out about what I am up to.
Its quite funny and hurtful at the same time. Hurtful sounds dramatic and WAY over sensitive and its probably not the word i really want to use. I think its probably because i have never considered removing myself from an individuals list but have many times in the past made sure i tick the no advertising or updates wanted on commercial sites.
I enjoy looking at artists mailouts though have to admit to wondering how I ended up on ther mailing list sometimes. it does annoy me when people forget to bcc but it amazing to look at the names on other peoples email lists. Some I save and have a folder set up just for received mail outs.I am yet to copy and mail out to all the accidental cc’s.
I have removed the artist from my contact book.
Need to pack for Manchester soonish, drive up sunday. have the outline of the talk printed out and all the slides are where they are meant to be.
My photograph was collected wednesday by Aardvark art movers and i have to say they seem really efficient and fairly priced.
I look forward to seeing the image up amongst the collection & really look forward to hearing people talk.
xxxx
i have just spotted that the advertising on the whitechapel website for the birth rites talk are leading with my image,
http://www.whitechapelgallery.org/shop/product/cat…
which is fantastic, probably only way of showing at the whitechapel but there is a error towards the end of the bio blurb about me, where i suddenly became male, oh well. Will email and see if I can get it changed.
On a uber efficient note, the Shepway arts officer emailed me a reminder about getting text ready for the guide and also extra notes and guidance. Good admin always makes me happy and impresses me. I think it is the hangover from temping as a team administrator and the control freak in me.
My desk currently makes me unhappy and there is a path to the desk, which weaves its ways through prints, unpacked boxes that is now waist height. It isnt quite fit for a grime fighters show but I am showing hoarding tendencies that if I lived on my own i could be buried alive. So I need to face up the fact that if i could disappear under the weight of my own work it could do serious harm to a toddler.
More tidying up needed – argh
