TESTING
Today I tested that all of the videos that I burned onto DVD’s worked on the monitor they are being displayed on, and I also checked that they looped, and everything worked perfect, very pleased with how they all look. They work well together. All I need to do now regarding videos is write down instructions for setting them up each day for the exhibition!
VINYL LETTERING OUTCOME
I chose to display some words related to my project on the wall and on the booth. I chose to use black matte vinyl lettering because it’s very clean looking, and I thought the style would go well with the TV monitors. It was very pricey but after seeing it displayed on the wall it was definitely worth it. It looks incredible.
I ordered the letters very big because I wanted to statements to be very bold, and it’s a big wall, so it needed big writing, small writing wouldn’t have looked right in my space.
The quotes are related to the whole project, this is all explained and reasons behind it etc are all explained within my sketch book.
Placing the vinyl lettering was quite difficult and very time consuming as we had to measure it all out and keep checking it was straight with the spirit level, it took two of us to do it.
So far with the monitors on the wall and the lettering on the wall things are getting very exciting!!!! …
Finishing the booth.
I am so very happy with the outcome of the booth idea. It has turned out very proffesional looking and with three of us it was fairly easy to construct at uni. I managed to use an old bed sheet for the curtain, and brought some cheap headphones for it as well.
The size inside the booth is perfect for viewing the video, and when you sit inside it is very very dark and you feel quite encolsed, but cosy.
We screwed it to the wall and it is very secure, it’s definitely not going to move anywhere!
BUSINESS CARD AND CATALOGUE IDEA
I want to display the catalogue and the business cards that I made as part of professional practice on my degree show. I think this would be a great way to get my name out there and will provide the viewer with extra information about what I do, they can flick through the book and look at my work and read what it’s all about or they can use my business card to go onto my website and have a look at other work that I do. This could open opportunities for possible commissions etc as well.
I thought that I could put a shelf up at the end of my wall space, so it looks quite separate, and then on the shelf display the catalogue and business cards so people can pick one up as they finish looking at my work.
Creating the Booth
We have made the booth (me and my dad) and we put it together in my back garden, then we are going to paint it, then take it apart so we can transport it easier in the van to uni, and also it’s very heavy to lift, and then put it back together in my space at uni.
It will be screwed to the wall of my space, just to ensure that it doesn’t move or in worst case scenario fall over! The booth is made with thick wood, and does seem very sturdy so we shouldn’t have any problems there.
Because there is going to be wires frame extension leads etc, my dad had the idea of putting a piece of wood (painted black) In front of the wires, underneath the TV to block it in so that the wires are not visible.
I am also going to put a wire at the top of the opening so that I can hang a piece of black material up to make a curtain so that it can shut behind the person viewing the work and be more enclosed.
