I’m a bit late with starting this blog but I shall try to keep it as updated as I can, especially in the final lead up to the Northumbria show in June.
I recently returned from a trip to Rome which was incredibly exciting. The time spent on the Palatine Hill cemented some ideas I had been considering in relation to green spaces and gardens.
Leading from a work from the previous semester – in which I turfed a significant part of my studio – I have been growing grass from seed. Introducing the natural landscape into my studio environment immediately transforms the feel of the studio and therefore my creative output. I am currently looking into the history of the landscape garden, in particular the emergence of the english garden in the mid-18th century. I am finding stimulus for constructing considered, yet raw spaces; spaces that would promote a feeling of egalitarianism and a forum for discussion.
Soon I will need to construct a proposal for my degree show space. I am thinking of building a large installation and have been eyeing up a few ground floor spaces, one of which is my current studio. Though I am definitely feeling the stress and strain of the final months of the degree, I can tell this final semester will be full of opportunity and will keep this blog going to detail my progress.
