Since my last post I have been willingly distracted by various things such as Alton Towers, Venice, working, spending the money earnt when working etc. By the time I came back after Easter I found I was suddenly apprehensive to return. It seemed like everyone else was taking mild leaps whilst all I had to show for myself was some Murano glass and a keyring with a photo of me screaming. However once back it turned out that like most worries it was silly and everyone is in the same boat!

Trying not to be too confident because that is always asking for trouble, but things seem to be going smoothly despite a stressful morning screenprinting this morning.

The other day I had the joy of looking for a backing track for my audio works and had the joy of shifting through hundreds of’backing track’ tracks. If you ever want a laugh read some of the descriptions on the back of a backing track CD…

A film I made with fairly naive intentions at in February has become the starting point for the work which will make up my contributions to this years Degree Show.

Initially this film sprung up from my research on Freud’s notes on hysteria in which he used the tale of King Midas’s Barber as a metaphor for abraction, specifically ‘talking-therapy’. Here I very simply used the myth as my own metaphor with a contemporary twist.

After finally submitting my Degree Show space proposal/ethics/risk assessment forms just before Easter it seems the count down has begun (how ominous).

This blog will hopefully provide a record of my progress which I will be able to look back on and I’m sure also learn from.

Without wanting to ‘spoil’ what I’m proposing, the work will essentially be in three parts, through the work I intend to link contemporary consumerism to desire in a more ancient sense. Using Greek Mythology I merge narratives with my own subjective interpretations and create a (hopefully) light -hearted piece of art work.

The work consists of three films which will be projected in a dark space, objects from the films and sound works. Many of which are unmade, in flux, or I’m not even sure whether I definitely want to include…
