It is less than two weeks now until I head off to China, and I have been busy getting all logistical elements ready, preparing research for my project and packing all my stuff in my flat as I will also be moving out of London, to move to Manchester on our return.
I have also been working on a collaborative project with Manchester based artist, Elizabeth Wewiora. We have been ‘getting to know each other online’ through our online blog, http://usergeneratedprofiles.blogspot.com. Through the blog, we have been setting each other tasks about each other personally, and also relating to the notion of ‘user generated content’. This weekend, I will be working on a collaborative drawing with Liz, which will be exhibited at the BLANKMEDIA Collective curated at MadLab, which opens on the 2nd June, and runs until 13th June.
Otherwise, I have been drawing up research questions for my project, locating traditional architectural complexes in Chongqing, and learning with great difficulty, Mandarin. Luckily I am familiar with some of the characters from Japanese Kanji, but the tones are more complex than any of the other languages I have tried to learn! I have a bit dictionary to take with me so at least I can point, if I get stuck……
