At the start of this blog I am reminded of two tutors comments 1, ‘What you put in is what you will get out.’ 2 ‘This course will change your life’ both comments reasonate with me as my art practice has gone on to grow and develop over the last couple of years.Experiencing new challenges, ideas, and influences that have enabled, defined, and honed a deeper understanding- communicating visual art, informed and in response to current social issues.
Summarizing
It is now time to take stock and reflect on my amazing journey taken thoughout this final project…The journey taken and the transition of one project into another at one stage felt like I had run aground mid stream it was an uncomfortable time but having worked through it and learning alot about the way I dealt and moved on sometimes we lose our narrative and time was precious…the folding of one project into this final one has opened up and inspired my reconnection with nature through studying and researching how vital and important the role of nature in our lives has provoked and inspired me to continue to evolve and develop ideas… the dawning realisation of how disconnected Western societies have become and its focus on the technological revolution is startling by contextualising artists whose connection with nature and their understanding of societies disconnection inspired and informed me… artists like Frans Krajcberg Gwyneth Scally , Richard Long, have been an inspiration Nam jun Paiks understanding of media and corporate control via media and his subversive work influenced my mediated works.
I found painting to be creative instrument as I found my way forward which led me into considering how to communiocate visually the other aspects of nature concerning societies.Painting has been my personal creative artistic response which was a cathartic experience, painting enabled me to expand my ideas for Mediated and Unmediated when concerning nature.
A gathering of works toward the degree assessment consdering paintings and elements cxollceted from the shoreline
Plinths now ready to be painted explored arranging them in my space to see the possibilitys of how to curate them
21st May….
Working in my degree show space today painting the walls white and putting a second coat of matt paint on my plinths in preparation for the degree show…they will need a final coat tomorrow. I arranged the plinths in a circle to get and idea of how to place them in a septagon also arranged my painting to see which will work well together as for the tv installation not sure if to place tv on a plinth… a good suggestion is to paint the plinth grey to match floor paint … see images .
Through my own growing realisation due to a personal experience of disconnection from nature i believe this project is the start of an ongoing enquiry and visual dialogue into how the modern industrialised societies disconnection from nature is causing symptoms of modern malaise both in the individual and culture…through being informed via research I have aquired a growing understanding of the cause and affects. Also gaining inspiration from artists writers, poets, and qoutes from the likes of Einstien, Merton,Wiliams etc….
My research continues…on the human condition concerning mans alienation from nature and a need to reconnect with nature…this information confirms a growing realization and the need to reconnect an article by Richard Louv states there are 5 causes of nature deficit
URBANIZATION WITHOUT NATURE the disappearence of biodiversity
A CULTURE OF FEAR-media amplified fear of strangers
SILICON FAITH- te chnology now dominates every aspect of our lives
CULTURAL DEVALUING OF NATURE Much of society does not see time spent in nature as enrichment
POST_APOCOLYPTIC VIEW OF THE FUTURE-nature is seen as a problem…needs to be a vision nature is a hope for future generations.
Monday 12th May, in studio today working on the largest scale work, and due to the scale 6ftx3ft trying to create a sense of sublimity, serenity, ambience, calm using very soft blue colbalt wash and perinone orange (pink) wash colour remembering Claude Monets quote “colour is my day long obsession my joy and my torment!” knowing when to stop or carry on is the big issue!! at this stage…see images of work and hand installation… the plinths are in the process of being finished.
