RESEARCHING online.
I came across artist Gwyneth Scally and an interesting article on her by Gabriel Del Valle below, I found this inspiring as I have been considering my own approach in possibly using ideas for a sculpture or an installation work in the project that would provoke and communicate the need to connect with nature and what our response should be as part of a consumer technological society that is increasingly dissconnected from the natural world.
Scally said her work is deeply rooted in the fight between humanity and nature. More specifically, she spoke about the fight that we, as a culture, engage in within ourselves of connecting with nature while having no idea what nature truly is in today’s day and age.
, we have lost the meaning of what it is to genuinely experience nature.
“The need to recreate nature is what my art is about,” Scally said.
Her works show a consistent mixture of nature or wildness and modern structures or constructs. Her art is eminently visual and thought provoking.
Her work is advocating for reconnecting to the natural world while making sure the future generations have one to reconnect to.

Peter Doig’s work has recently been inspirational to me, and of particular relevence to work I am developing. His land and seascape works depict aspects of the horizon which has been a recent focus in my work. (see images ) I am also interested in his ratios of sky to sea/land within his work and how this contributes to the overall effectiveness of how the viewer’s vision is drawn toward the horizon.
Depending on Doig’s use of ratio, he is able to create a sense of the viewer looking into the distance yet also this doubly evokes a feeling of nearness or of being a part of… this compels the viewer to be drawn into the scene…magical!
Doig has the ability to create atmospheric compostions and create a luminosity…a technique I would like to attempt to capture as I continue to explore these skills.
Doig is a great experimentalist with colour and seems unafraid to apply it to great effect in his work I particulary like his use of colour in Magical Landscape.
Doig says of painting…
It’s still an escape for me, painting, so it also takes me elsewhere. I don’t think I would do it otherwise.Peter DoigRead more at http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes

A continuation of exploring aspects of colour within the previous photo image in studio work produced today.
The whole world, as we experience it visually, comes to us through the mystic realm of color.

Color is my day-long obsession, joy and torment.
Claude Monet
Todays experimenting with colour has also alerted me to ratio of sky to sea which is an aspect I need to take into consideration when working toward final work.
Also need to redefine time scales concerning outcomes
Need to start thinking about scale of canvases.
Color is everything. When color is right, form is right.

In the studio today I decided to work from a photo image taken from the shore line, that looked out toward the distant horizon.
The colour is an important aspect within the image as it is less intense than previous colours explored. my aim today is to explore more low key colour aspects.
In the previous blog I discussed and questioned how I had become aware that the colours used within the experiments were “very busy”, and that there was a need for me to address this issue through further exploration of colour and to review my original ideas and approach toward paintings that better reflect and convey a cathartic, ambient sense.
