The builder accidently snipped the telephone cable yesterday so we lost the internet. I could cope without the phone but I’d got an ongoing trail of emails to deal with and… aargh! We now have a temporary fix so all is good. One thing I needed to do was email reminders about the talk and pv on Sunday. Robert Luzar ( www.harringtonmillstudios.co.uk) will be giving a tour of his work at 2pm 4 July followed by a talk on contemporary drawing. The panel includes Rob Van Beek and Martin Lewis. I have been photocpying for England today. I expect there will be more at the weekend. We are organising our case into 9 different sections and have distilled the claim and the counter-claims to the bone. They tell a story – Jem is brilliant at tellling a story – not in a fictional, make-believe way but a narrative and honest easy to understand way.

We are looking forward to the 3rd in the series of open discussions on contemporary art at HMS – this time focussing on drawing which ties in with the PV of Robert Luzar’s exhibition. Aprroximations To… SUNDAY 4th July 2010 2pmViewing of ‘Approximations to..’.by Robert Luzar and open discussion on contemporary drawing. Panel:Panel Robert Luzar/ Martin Lewis/Rob Van Beek Had a phonecall from a local news reporter(Chad, Mansfield) who had seen my work at the Royal Academy and want to do a feature. I mentioned Southwell Artists and they are also cover the open studios in November. Great publicity.
My painting ‘Not A Stag Party’ is currently on show at the Backlit Studios alongside work by studio members and associates. The blurb advertises the show as a members exhibition so you can imagine the confusion when my name was on the list. Artists are wondering if I’ve abandoned HMS. I fill them in – it’s great to be involved in 2 quite different set-ups and v healthy. Re the show – I was impressed by the Tracey’s curation – not easy to make a meaningful exhibition from disparate works.
My last few journeys on the M25 have been OK. Today was bad. After 5 hours I finally arrived at the South Hill Park Arts Centre where help was at hand to sort out the two paintings which had been on show at the At Play 2 exhibition. My experience at the gallery has been A1. Good communication, friendly and professional – I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. HMS artists are up for a beach hut jolly on the East coast in September. http://www.mablethorpe.info/bathingbeauties/index.html
4 letters are off to the lawyers today and the reason why the case is with us from morn til night. It is the topic of conversation at breakfast and dinner and before we go to bed. Nothing is posted until we are both in agreement. It’s good that things are going well at HMS and my own practice is moving in the right direction. I try to keep other activities to a minimum to avoid overload. Otherwise I think I would go mad.
