My painting ‘Not A Stag Party’ is currently on show at the Backlit Studios alongside work by studio members and associates. The blurb advertises the show as a members exhibition so you can imagine the confusion when my name was on the list. Artists are wondering if I’ve abandoned HMS. I fill them in – it’s great to be involved in 2 quite different set-ups and v healthy. Re the show – I was impressed by the Tracey’s curation – not easy to make a meaningful exhibition from disparate works.
My last few journeys on the M25 have been OK. Today was bad. After 5 hours I finally arrived at the South Hill Park Arts Centre where help was at hand to sort out the two paintings which had been on show at the At Play 2 exhibition. My experience at the gallery has been A1. Good communication, friendly and professional – I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. HMS artists are up for a beach hut jolly on the East coast in September. http://www.mablethorpe.info/bathingbeauties/index.html
4 letters are off to the lawyers today and the reason why the case is with us from morn til night. It is the topic of conversation at breakfast and dinner and before we go to bed. Nothing is posted until we are both in agreement. It’s good that things are going well at HMS and my own practice is moving in the right direction. I try to keep other activities to a minimum to avoid overload. Otherwise I think I would go mad.
Varnishing Day at the Royal Academy was an experience. I was probably in a room of full of important people, but the only one I recognised was Grayson Perry. With over 11,000 entries approx 500 were hung. Another 500 pieces were by invited artists. Mine was pretty central, in the room full of little pictures, just above head height, so not in the heavens :)My only regret was wearing girlie shoes which scoured my heels. I am still suffering. The next show at HMS is approaching. As drawing is an important part of my practice I’m really excited about Robert Luzar’s exhibition (4th – 25th July). Robert has also agreed to participate in a discussion about drawing on Sunday 4th July from 2:00pm which is brilliant! See http://www.grammee.org.uk for more info about the artist. I’ve just signed up to be an associate member of Backlit. They are an energetic and proactive group and I’m very excited and proud to be involved with them. I drop off work today for the first project, an exhibition starting on 17th June.
